The law and

Hi everyone,
i am so done with being handcuffed to my Rx's and being handcuffed because of because of being on my meds..
I suffered a instant brain anuerism some years ago. Was life flighted to Stanford, had emergency brain surgery and survived, which I later was told is a miracle, since most people bleed out in 4 mins. Unfortuntley the outcome was nerve damage which left me in extreme pain.
Needless to say I was referred to a pain mgmt. Doc. He was great, and assured me he would get me out of pain! We worked with several meds before we found a regamine of:
4 80mg. Oxycontins every 8 hrs.
4 350mg Soma pr. day (1 every 6hrs)
3-5 30mg IR daily for break thru
1-3 xanax a day
this combo had worked well till they changed the formula (purdue) and on top of that my Doc retired...(bummer) because he was awesome. His replacement (new Doc) is a PIG. He's most definetly a scrip doctor and in it for the $$$. He not only charges me $50. for my script every month, is this even legal???  When I was in last time, I mentioned to hime that the Oxy wasn't working anymore and that I wanted to get off of it, and he laughed!
He told me "If I was prescribing insulin to you for diabeters would you tell me you want to get off?" "Well of course not" i replied. He basically was telling me I could never get off these meds for the rrest of my life. He then tried to convince me to get on Methadone, even after I brought up I had read that it is harder to get off of...
i did fill the script and took one, but thinking about it I decided to not take it at all. getting off the Oxy is hard enuf, I really don't want to make things harder on myself. I wish I had never gone down this road.
Anyway i have been in the process of tapering down, I have elminated my day time meds for the most part and only taking AM and PM......and now am tapering down 1 oxy per wk. have elimated the need for the IR's but still taking the soma and xanax....my question is this....
Can I taper faster than 1 per week of the 80's??? and I was thinking that once off the 80's I will take the 30's to ease myself down and then when I'm at the end of it all I will take 1 10mg methadone and use the Soma and Xanax to ease the WD's.
I am sooo done with this, and am feeling like I dont even recocnize myself anymore????and am not living, just existing......obviously I'm depressed as well..
I really think that this Oxy is causing my depression. About 3 years ago I started to get depressed and am having a really hard time getting out of it.......
I have no idea what is happening to me, but since the oxy does'nt work anymore, what is the point?
Also, does anyone know why when in detox that your lower back hurts so much?

thanx for listening and would really like any suggestions with my plan to detox...as well as your insight....

Welcome to the forum.   I don't know anything about oxys (I took hydrocodone) and wouldn't give you advice about that, but I wanted to comment on the low back pain, because I also experienced that when I quit.   I have never hurt my back, but my lower back started bothering me.   I also had trouble moving....my legs felt so heavy.   Someone called it a turtle walking through carmel the other day, and that just about describes it for me.

I had a hard time getting anything done.   I would lay in bed, miserable and depressed, knowing I had to get up and take care of my animals.   I would go out and be out there for ten minutes or so and couldn't stay to finish.   I would have to come in and lay down for awhile.   It was horrible and for me, it was much worse than the sickness I felt withdrawing.  I have always been very active and to find myself unable to get around, sure made me rethink taking the pills again.   But, I didn't and I finally was able to get up and go.   I had to make a list and make myself work a little bit, and I allowed myself lots of time to rest.    I just want to say that now I have more energy than I have in years.   I get up in the morning and I look forward to going out and taking care of my livestock and working on my projects.   I took hydros for pain in my knees.   I didn't want to give them up but I didn't want to slide down that slippery slope any farther than I had already.    Some days I still have pretty bad pain, but I can manage mine with OTC meds.   I know that doesn't answer your question about the low back pain.....all I can figure is that we are more sensitive to pain, and it is our brain trying to trick us into taking the pills.  Maybe someone else can explain it better.    Good luck to you.

You are on a very high dose of oxycontin. If you stop for any reason and begin again with that dose you will without question go into respiratory arrest. A person who has never taken opiates will stop breathing if they start with that dose. If you stop for a while the cell receptors reset. Remember this!  Oxycontin is hard to wean off off, but keep at it, a little at a time.
