oxy/percocet weaning

Hi everyone, my husband has been taking various pain pills (oxy, vicodin, percocet, soma) mainly oxy for a knee injury for last 2 years. We are trying to wean him off of the oxy with percocet. He has gone from taking oxy to about 10 percocet a day to about 5 percocets a day now.  My question is he has been having some chest pains through out the day for last 3 days since he has dropped down to 5 a day, is this normal? Should I be getting him to a doctor or is this a normal withdrawal?

I would stress, but yes you should take your husband to the doctor.

I was not a oxy user, I abused Hydrocodone (vicodin/lortab) and I know that chest
pain was not a w/d that I had.  Everyone is different and I would not worry, but I
would take him to his doctor.  He should have a check up anyway (check his bp and such).

As I was told better save than sorry,

Hang in here and it sounds like he is doing great with the taper, also if the DR knows
your husband is trying to get off of the pills he might beable to give him something
for anxiety (which could be causing the chest pains).

I am not sure if the chest pains are a direct result of the reduced dose of percs. I do know that Oxy's can cause sever respitory damage. Was he abusing the Oxy's? Did your dr.or his dr.that was prescribing them know the amount he was taking? If so, then I am sure he can call and let them know what's going on. In any case, call and let them know no matter what as you probably want to be safe then sorry. I don't think its anything to major. I am sure he will be ok. Good luck and I wish you both all the best.
