oxycontin

I just recently found out that my husband has been taking 3-4 oxy 80's a day and now he is trying to quit himself.  I have begged him to go to the doctor or treatment center to get help and he keeps telling me that he has to do this on his own.  He's taking methadone to try to come down.  Is this any better-what is the best thing to do and what can i do to help-  I try to be supportive and not get angry or upset but i can't seem to help but get upset because i feel totally decieved and i don't even know if he is telling me the truth-please help

The methadone shojuld only be used for a period of 5-10 days MAX. In my opinion he would be better off tapering a dose from oxy's or another opiate base pain pill - if he does the methadone for very long he will just trade the frying pan for the fire. I would say that you should do more homework by reading this forum... and congrarulations for sticking with your husband and trying to help. You can help but its a rough road. I am surely glad that my wife invested the time in me and didnt give up. Good luck to you. And have the hubby read this forum also - it would probably do him some good also......

Right now, be supportive of him. He is going to feel lousy for a while. Once he is cleaned up you can discuss your lack of trust in him and hopefully have a heart to heart with him on your feelings.
Methadone is the devil. It is worse to come off of than the oxy's. How long has he been taking it? If he has just started it, tell him to stop NOW.
Post back so we know how long he has been taking the methadone. He has simply traded a bad drug habit for an even worse one.
Did he get the oxy's legally? for pain?
Did he buy off the street?
And the methadone...how is he coming by that? If he isn't in treatment he's getting them off the street.
