Act and react vs. doing nothing and staying out of ppls business??

So I was at work today (only half day whoohooo) and I was looking for something I needed and I stumbled upon  a light bulb that had been fabricated for smoking meth.......now I realize its none of my business what my co-worker does in his free time, but since were at work I kinda got a different outlook on the topic. A part of me wants 2 confront him  because in the big picture I gotta work with this guy whom is all zipped up on meth  (safety safety safety) and another part of me wants 2 help because I know this guy is pry stuck in a tornado like many of us were at one time and just needed a friend. (this cat is pry 25 years older than me so regardless hes not guna wana hear it from a whipper snapper  like myself (31 years old)  I really don't wana poke and prod around were I don't belong and something is telling me 2 just look the other way and keep stepping, but again this is at work and its one thing 2 indulge in your vice in your free time but completely different when its at your place of work......im no snitch so im not guna (I repeat) I will not go 2 the boss with this!!!  But any words of advice for me would be great.....its been eating me up since I stumbled upon this earlier today!!!

And im sure some of your are wondering..............NO I did not partake in or even want 2 partake when I found this pipe full of meth........if it would have been some dope (heroin) with a fresh needle next 2 it, it might have been somewhat harder but honestly I still could have said NO WAY MAN..... Soberity looks 2 good on me 2 throw it all away now, I almost cant even think about the person I was leading up 2 getting clean......I was a disgrace 2 humanity.... U know what the say ......Its the game of life and you don't get 2 play it twice, ya dig

Hi,

I would try to avoid any kind of threat or confrontational approach as he's bound to be defensive. (Of all the drugs out there, I can't imagine a 'hinkier' one to tackle than Meth in this sense [& others!]) Do you get along with this guy? (Obviously it would help if you do). The fact that he's smoking at work, shows that he's got very little control over himself & that his perception is warped. So, right out of the gate, you're armed with that knowledge.

Perhaps you could watch him, make sure he's not high, pull him aside & open it up this way:

'Listen man, I don't want to embarrass you but I found this. (show him the light bulb). I just wanted you to know that I've been there myself & understand but I'm concerned about safety, here -- (yours, mine & everyone else's) -- so, I thought we should talk. This sh*t will kill you & you could get others hurt in the process. I'm in recovery myself -- I could give you a couple of pointers if you like. If he's responds defensively/is in denial (which is likely) I'd say: 'Hey, the desire to quit has to come from you but in the meantime I'd appreciate it if you didn't bring that sh*t to work, I don't want to be around it & I don't think anyone else would be happy about it either. I'm here if you ever want to talk.'

I mean, that's how I'd roll but then that's me ;))  (It's a toughie but you should probably do something about it!) Remember to protect yourself first.:) Good luck Dirk.

I would walk up to him and tell him what you found.  You could also tell him that you know what he is going thru and when he is ready to put the drugs down to look you up.

if it's a safety issue i don't see any other choice...yo have to tell him you found it and let him know that if he continues to use on the job YOU WILL TELL...
in my opinion
