pregnant addict

I am almost 2 months into pregnancy.  I am a functional addict, falling again into use.  Many highs and lows are causing me to smoke cigs (maybe 5 half cigs a day), sneak a bit of vodka (bout 3 times a week), and doing small amounts of coke.  I am deep in shame.  I feel the damage is already done and that just makes me want to use more.  I am working on getting medi-cal, maybe thru this I will find help. Can anyone relate?

OMG please try to stop!!  the worst is the drinking - this is by far the worst, work on the coke and then drop the smokes.  i know how hard it is to stop coke but keep thinking about your baby - coke will make your baby have a smaller head size, it can cause low birth weight, and if you do it every day or most of the time the child will be more fussy and have a hard start at life, to my knowledge coke has not caused any birth defects but drinking will.  I am not a nurse though only relating what i found on the web and what a dr told me.  a nurse can help you more then i can.  Please stop the drinking

first of all the damage is not already done, well let's hope not, but you are bringing an innocent child in this world that deserves a fair shot at life and if you continue to use the chances of a healthy baby will decrease. i am trying to be polite here but it's hard for me. i found this so i will copy and paste it here so you can see what coke and booze could do to your unborn child. im glad you posted and please stay off the sauce, smokes and blow, there is help out there for you. i wish you the best of luck.

Cocaine use during pregnancy can increase the complications of pregnancy and affect the fetus directly. These abusers may also use other drugs, alcohol, and nicotine, which adversely affect the pregnancy. They have an increased rate of miscarriages, placenta abruption in which the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus and results in stillbirth. There is increasing information that cocaine may cause birth defects with increased rates of malformation, low birth weights, and behavioral abnormalities.

If nothing else, stop the vodka.....NOW is the most important developmental time for your baby's brain.  As for the coke, I'm not well informed in that category, however, i do not think we need to be, to know that it too is harmful.  Someone with more experience and information on the subject should post soon.
