scared

I have been on methadone for 10 yrs. now. I 'am presently on 12 mg. I want to wean off the right way but my methadone clinic keeps yo-yoing my doses (take-outs). So now my children and my mental health counselor all wants me to go in and detox off the methadone with the subutox. I'm researching this drug and finding out that this is just as much addictive as the methadone. Will I be jumping from the frying pan into the fire ?? Please help...thank-you

Welcome to medhelp while I cannot offer advice on the methadone, I can offer you support for wanting to get clear and free of the drug that has taken over your life. Just from reading here and from friends experience subs can be just as addicting, I agree with above that weaning methadone sounds beneficial. Have u checked with another med professional for their opinion?

Just taper off the methadone.  I don't see any benefit in transitioning to suboxone.  I used suboxone for two years and I've used my share of methadone.  The only drug that can give methadone a run for its money regarding withdrawal horror stories is Subutex/Suboxone.
