suboxone for pain relief

Hi-I had been on dilaudud 2mg. for pain relief for chronic pain issues.I had to go of dilaudud for a few days then began the suboxone as of last Thursday so I am now on 2mg. of the suboxone.Has anyone else here gone on the suboxone for chronic pain relief. This is what my doc is using it for on me-I see most of you are on it for detox....I was wanting of fthe dilaudud as I was afraid of becoming addicted.(And was constipated all the time so he put me on naltrexone for the chronic constipation I was on.Ended up in hospital 4-6x for this.,the naltrexone worked great to help me go also using the miralax as added supplement. So my question is are any of you on it for the relief of chronic pain?I was so afraid to go off the diaudid as my pain has been so great. And to be honest I am feeling less depressed being on the suboxone than on the dilaudid. But,my pain levels are up on the suboxone and it doesn't feel like its helping the pain to much. And does suboxone cause constipation?Any help would be greatly appreciated.I go back to docs on Mon for him to evaluate me or something. When he put me on the suboxone he made me take first dose at his office, and made me lay there for like and hour and a half.Thanx,Carol

5 days ago I started on Suboxone so I could get off the pain pill train. I am taking 8mg a day, 4 in the morning and 4 in the pm as per my doctors orders. I was on the pills for 8 years (treating injuries from active duty), increasing dosage as they lost effectiveness. Also I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder 12 years ago and have tried every anti-depressant in the book. Some worked fine for a few weeks and then just stopped working. The Suboxone has been a life saver! It relieves my pain almost completely and my mood hasn't been this good for ages. I had been complaining to my docs about low energy and no ability to concentrate for more than a minute. Today I sat down a wrote 7 pages of a paper for college, working non-stop. My recall has improved and I have enough energy that I jump out of bed in the morning and hit the floor running. I get urine tested every few days (ok with me) and pick up a few days worth of the Suboxone. After a couple of week they will start giving me scripts for weeks or even a month. I am not going to screw this up. I have no desire to use and wouldn't take the chance b/c I don't want to be taken off the Suboxone yet. The stuff has changed my life for the better, I can't believe how good I feel! I have read some of the posts on various forums and can see that some of the info is BS. Can't speak for everyone but I doubt most peoples experience isn't really that different from mine. Get off the pills and the dope, get your doc to start you on Suboxone, it may be the best decision of your life.

Oh...since I have been on pain meds for 20+ years  have had the constipation for about that long.  About a year ago I switched my whole way of eating, and have not had any const. since then.  I now eat fruit, veggies, whole grains, a small amount of meat, and nothing much else.  Now I am talking every day...4-5 servings fresh fruit, no juice except a glass of v8 every day or so. 3-4servings of fresh or frozen veg.whold grain bread, brown rice, whol grain cereal, steel cut oatmeal, low fat no sugar  yogurt several times a week, cheese, milk in cereal cottage or and sometimes sour creametc etc.  I DO have a treat once or twice a week, maybe a small milkshakeat a drive thru of a piece of something sweet at a friends house.  I feel much better since I have been eating healthy.    Jerri

Never been on sub, but have used 4 mg dilaudid for 2+ years.  I averaged about 90 pills every 5 or 6 weeks.   I pretty much wore them out and needed more and more for the pain. I am on day 14 of cold turkey off them.  I have decided to try alternative solutions to pain.  I will first try chiropractic, then accupuncture if that doesn' work. Any way good luck to you, we are here you are not alone     Jerri

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Suboxone can be used for pain, but from what Ive learned it doesnt work as well as most opiates. Check out the site naabt.org for more information. I take Sub for addiction purposes. It does cause constipation. It is also very normal for your Dr to do the induction at his office. They just want to make sure you dont go into precipitated withdrawal. Definetly check out the web site for more info...there are some people on the forum there that are using the suboxone for pain....they may be able to answer your questions better. Hope this helps...feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions!
