U sound so positive...and u will do this..but dont forget sub is a narcotic...and addicting..it is not like antiabuse that alcoholics use to stop drinking..this is a strong narcotic..stronger than the hydro u were on..so in reality u will be taking anarcotic again...but u r using it to quit..remember that...so many end up replacing their doc with sub..then sub becomes their doc..not saying that will happen to u  but just know what u r doing..with ur psychological background it may be ur best route to take..but do ur work on urself..aftercare...learn how to live without the narcotics..perhaps the sub will not give u nrg and a "jolt"  they did me tho..loved those puppies better than my hydro...just be safe

70 mgs of hydro does not need tons of sub to cover it..2 mgs would do more than enuf..but the dr may start u on 12-16 mgs..maybe 8 mgs if u r lucky..sub is just so different than the narcs we r used to..it is a partial agonist..but packs tons of pwer behind it...less i better with sub..if u r using it to avoid wds then 1-2 weeks would be enuf as a 70 mg hydro habit/for most the physical wds are gone in a week or less...the 21 day rule of sub is a calculation as most agree that if u use it for more than 21 days u will eventually have to face wd from the sub...and being that u r afraid of wd...u could get stuck on it if u do not keep urself aware..have even heard of people going back to their doc to taper off sub as the sub wds were worse than wds from their doc

what r ur intentions?  let ur dr know...do u want to use to avoid wds or do u want to use it long term to help u not crave and possibly prevent relapse..many do this while they work their program to get ok with themselves/solve trigger issues etc...and it is a good choice for some to stay on sub long term..what is it that u need?...talk to ur dr...be honest...and remember with sub LESS IS BETTER..keep us posted

I have AMAZING news everyone.

First, I had my sister over to come into my bathroom and bare witness to me throwing away, well flushing down the toilet, 7 different types of painkillers in 10 different prescription bottles. I got rid of every last one. I'm surprised even with myself that I did this and didn't even hide an emergency stash or something like that. It was a HUGE step today and I'm really happy. Yet, I am very, very scared. I just lost control of a huge aspect of my life. I can't go take a pill right now or ever again. I can't decide.. hmm 1 norco or 5, should i add some tramadol to that, etc. Giving up control is very hard to do. I'm even questioning myself if I did the right thing, but that is simply the addict in me. I KNOW I did the right thing.

Secondly, I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with a Suboxone doctor. This pleases me grealy because I know from experience that this drug works phenomenally and will ease my withdrawal symptoms. Call me week or the name of a female's anatomy, but I cannot handle the withdrawal. I was absolutely going to check myself into a hospital if the Suboxone does work out. Because my pills are gone, I am quitting cold turkey no matter what.

Monday, September 28th is the last day I will have ever taken an opiate drug this was making my body dependent and me most likely addicted.

I am so excited that I wish I could post this on several message boards!!!

Wish me luck and I wish the best for all of y'all as well. I am no longer hopeless :)

16 mg is a fairly high dose if you are taking sub for a long period.  Usually people don't need much more than 4 mg to maintain.  Taking sub long term is not dangerous.  Worried does state a lot of facts above, but people here are pretty much against suboxone because it is promoted as the easy way to detox with no w/d.  Not true, esspecially if taken long term.  I took it for 4 years and could not taper off on my own, had to do a medical detox.  Only you can make the determination if you need to stay on it longer.  If you feel like you are going to relapse, then don't stop taking it.  Do you have any kind aftercare program or support that you can rely on to help support you when you do decide to stop taking the sub?  Take Care.

16 mgs is a decent amount of sub...what was ur initial doc and daily dose before the sub?
seems as tho  most get down to 4 mgs without much difficulty..some even down to 2 mgs before they feel alot of discomfort from sub wd...there is an article in the health pages on the "ceiling effect of sub"  Once ur receptors r full of it...higher doses dont really do much..sub was originally a pain drug in Latin America called Temgesic...normal dose was  0.2 mgs...1/5 of a mg..the US adopted it as an addiction drug and the pharmaceutical company marketed the stew out of this drug and many r on way more than they need to be..Drs RX it after very little training/an 8 hr course than can be done online
As a rule/and being in the medical field..most Drs do not know a whole lot about drugs...pharmaceutical salesman come in and do a quick "sell" on the drug and unfortunately many Drs do not really know the ins and outs of the drugs they RX...some do if they take the time to learn..there r tons of drugs introduced to the market on a regular basis..it is hard for a Dr to keep up even if he wanted to...some do/some do not

a Pharmacist is the one who will usually be most informed about medications...and the internet is full of info on any drug u google..course if u dont have any medical background, i do know often the lingo can be difficult..but there r also sites for lay people where they explain drugs in lay terms

Whether u will relapse or not when u taper down off the sub/if u do/is dependent on if u have done the work..or recovered adequately during this 2 yrs to stay clean..most could probably do ok on a lower dose than 16 mgs but we r all different..some need a maintnenence drug like sub or methadone for life...we r all different//many do not need them long term
I have heard people say after long term sub use it turned on them//this doesnt happen to everyone but began causing sluggishness and depression after a while...the hydros did that to me...sub is a narcotic/a partial agonist but a very strong narcotic...keep posting and be safe

I'm several steps behind you and have extreme opiate addictio per say to Norco. I have been taking them for pain management due to an injury. I was on it during my stay at the hospital in august for a week but was so doped up on psych pills I don't really remember it.

Question is, would you recommend a newbie to get on suboxone in order to stop their opiate habit and not use?
