suboxone

why does suboxone have to be taken sublinually?does it still work if you just swallow it?

It must he taken under the tongue because of the naltrexone.  It is not absorbed sublingually and the buprenorphine is absorbed quickly that way.  It is not absorbed in the stomach.  Just the way the medication works.

No, it won't do much if you swallow it because the acid in your stomach destroys most of it before it can be absorbed in the duodenum, which is how most pills work.  Suboxone is intended for sublingual use only because it absorbs through your mucous membranes in your mouth and quickly gets to your bloodstream.
