suboxone..will it work

I have been taking 30 to 40 percocet per day plus fent patch. My pm doctor just dropped me. I have an appointment with a sub Doc on Thursday. Will it help me? I am out of control. I do have chronic pain issues, but have been taking meds for emotional relief too. The 1st appointment will cost 350 and I am skeptical. Please tell me if it will help me

Sleep disturbances aren't uncommon while you adjust to the sub.

Does the clinic require any kind of therapy?  Hopefully you've found a good clinic who will stress the importance of tapering down to a low maintenence dose.  If you're comfortable at this dose, you don't need a higher dose.  Typically, what happens is you will be allowed to stabilize at the induction dose, for at least a few weeks.  Then, the doc will work with you starting to taper down to a lower maintenence dose.  After the initial adjustment, most people can be maintained on doses around 2-4 mg a day, or less.

When it comes time to taper off completely, the taper should be slow and deliberate, again, also allowing you to stabilize on each dose after a drop down.  The doctor should want to taper you down to the lowest possible dose before jumping off.  The doc I worked for recommended 0.5mg a day being a good jumping point (just as a reference).  Some people even tapered down beyond that.  Personally, I think the lower a person can get down to, the better off they'll be, as far as minimizing any w/d symptoms.

Aftercare is SO important. While you're on the sub program, you'll most likely feel great, and be able to live your life...which is a good thing.  It allows people to get some normalcy back in their lives and get some clean time under their belt.  However, when you've come off Sub comepletely, it will be so important to keep working at staying clean.  Relapse unfortunately is very common for an addict...so therefore, a good aftercare plan will help you to learn about the different stages of relapse, and how to avoid it.  That's vital.

Best of luck to you!

Both. I don't want to be consumed by pills anymore, but I need some level of pain relief. I am hoping subs are the answer. Methadone is not an option. I can't go everyday for a dose of it. I have a young child and wil not drag him to a methadone clinic, but thank you for letting me know how well it has worked for you.

1st things 1st, your brain chemistry has changed due to opiates, and you are physically and mentally ill without them.  You will be drug sick and you will do what ever it takes to not be.  You should get into a methadone maintenance clinic asap.  one dose of methadone is effective for both pain and withdrawl for 24-36 hours.  You do not develope tolerance as with all other opiates.  It allows you to have a life.     I began methadone maintenance some years ago after a car accident neck surgery, nerve damage, etc.  I went on SSI disability, pain pills, pain clinics, and eventually some heroine all in the attempt to stop pain and not be dope sick.  After I went into methadone program, I went off of Social security disability, I work and I have been a fulltime student and graduate college in May 2013 at 49 years old.  The methodone clinic was a commitment to change my life.  The misconceptions people have about methadone are false.  There are counseling and restrictions and it is not all easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.

It sounds like you may be on a high enough dose to justify subs. At the bottom right of this page are the suboxone/subutex FAQs in the most viewed health pages. I'd read that before you go to that appointment. I do know people who use subs for chronic pain, as well as addiction. What are your goals, to get totally clean or find a new med for pain management? You say  you're out of control, have you tried to taper down slowly or any other means of getting clean? Oh, one more thing, do you mean 30 to 40mg of percocets or 30 or 40 pills?
