taper from OxyContin

Here we go! I am a 65 year old man who was diagnosed with Anlylosing Spondylitis about 8 years ago. I have experienced pain for 10 years and have been prescribed OxyContin for that pain. My dosage has been the same for over 5 years. 80mg OxyContin 3 time a day and 30mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. My doctors are pain specialists so they know their stuff. I want off! I want to taper my dosage. Is 3 weeks the correct amount of time to reduce my dose to 0?

Ditto with IBK..Just take it slow and easy and let the Brain/Body adjust to each drop. You will still have a mild w/d but not as intense and long if you do a nice taper. Many of us could not taper and I too played he11 coming off my 3 meds at once. I wish you the best.
Have you talk to the Dr yet for a Taper plan??
Bless
PS..Just give this the Time it needs to come out of your body..Drink LOTS of water in the meantime.

Hi & Welcome,

Three weeks is going to be a rough taper off of that high a dose. Your best bet is to talk with your doctor and get a proper schedule. Slow is better. Best of luck. Let us know how you are doing.
