I think it affects people differently. I personally didn't like it. My brother on the other hand abuses it and likes it more than vicodin or percocet. He says it gives him energy and seems like an anti-depressant. I have heard it does act like an anti-depressant. I really think it just depends on the person, everyone has a different Drug of Choice.

For me it is like an antidepressent..a light euphoria that helps to deal with all the crap I have going on.

My nana was prescribed them for pain relief for her sciatica(sp) nerve...She says it does relieve some of her pain I had to talk her into finally seeing a Dr. and getting on some sort of short term or as needed pain meds (she is a side effect freak) meaning she rarely will take anything that is addictive or makes her feel "loopy" as she is on other meds for bi-polar as am I....She takes them only when it's acting up but long story short it was given to her for pain...although I have researched it for her and found many ppl do get addicted to it so I made sure she knows to take w/ caution and very sporadically only when needed, and she does..I had never heard/seen for antideperessant interesting..
I agree that it's not a really pleasurable drug like a real opiate, but people get hooked on it and have a harder time getting off it than real dope. For me, it was like a kiddie narcotic or psuedo dope but I think more people get hooked on it for it's antidepressant features.
Doesnit have the negative side effects of opiates? Like bad decisions, bad sexual side effects, extreme fatigue ( when coming down) irrritablility and all the nasty? I guess I am asking what are the reasons to stop it like opiates. I mean if it's WORKING for depression and some pain. It's not like people don't have to take real antidepressants long term
thank you for the responses, I was given it for my leg that is still giving me problems and i refused anything that had any hydrocodone or codiene(sp) i rode that train before and not going back I just want some pain relief and otc"s are just not working.also is there anything you can take for the nausea it gives you? thanks

I'm still wondering what the drawbacks are. Like what are the bad side effects like opioids?
I know one bad side affect, that if abused (high doses) Tramadol can make you have seizures . You also have to taper off this drug it can not be stopped cold turkey. I don't know much else about it. Addictive behavior with tramadol can very quickly turn into addictive behavior with other more powerful drugs.

It is mucher harder to quit than hydrocodone in a different way. I had a friend who was a real bad dope fiend and later ended up on ultram. His thing was that he wasn't on dope so it wasn't as bad. That drug contributed to his early death. I hate this drug and would rather see people take opiates
