try try try

hi there. i wanted to say a few words of encouragement..to all the new people who are starting..all the older ones who have relapsed..and to all the successful ones with clean days under their belt.

im still new to sobriety. and still have my battles. so im still learning too. everyday i learn something new about addiction. either from here meetings or research. one thing i HAVE learned is this is a COMMITMENT. a HUGE COMMITMENT. you can't play around with sobriety. can't make excuses to use etc etc.

i as so many have relapsed after relapsed. heck i  battle everyday. as you know or dont know i am a cronic pain patient. so i feel my battle is different than the recreational user. but just like a recreational user i abused much of my medicine to get HIGH. getting HIGH helped me deal with the physical and mental pain. im close to being disabled now and that is hard for me to wrap my mind around...

but that's not what im writing to you about...its about the change of thinking. when i first  came here i was out of control. i only lived day to day. pill to pill. no more no less....and then little but little i got better. i am no stronger than you. i am no better than you. i just had enough of the pills...well not the pills per say...the cost of the pills...the destruction of pills. that sort of thing.

i relapsed and relapsed so many times by myself in the past. then finally i was so hooked i bought and bought more and more to avoid the opiate flu. but i finally came to the realization enough was enough. i wasn't going to ruin myself anymore. I WAS READY. that's key. to be ready.

i think so many (self included) get caught up in the forever aspect of sobriety...forever is a long time when your starting recovery...too long to wrap our minds around it...so

i developed a new slogan. first to make it easier on me i said i would try no pills for just 90 days...if i still hurt and i do. i could always go back to pills. they are not going to suddenly disappear as we think. the pills will wait. so i set a gaol of 90 days....oh the detox was a beast. mine was textbook rough i had every withdrawl symptom in the book...and i thought k was never ever gonna get over that...then the mental part came . depression and cravings..along with the thought of just one wont hurt...

but i stuck to the goal of 90 days...and on my 90th day another surgery was waiting for me...but something changed along the way. me. my thinking. i liked myself again. i could think again. i had energy again. i had self worth again.....so i challenge You to take the bama challenge....just 90  days...no more no less. and then see for yourself....but please please CHOOSE something....being wishy washy won't help. arguing with yourself won't help. just mark down 90 days from today on your calander and aim for that goal......the pills will wait. but can you afford to continue down a road that has no happy ending?

i jumped from 120msg or more of oxycontin. i didn't die. im here.

i am bama an addict that chooses not to get high today...i promise no more. and another thing...whether your using or detoxing or clean this forum is the right place to be...its awesome

Bama Bama Oh Bama....90 days?  Mine as well say 'forever' cuase 90 days is a breathtaking amount of time to one who feels the tug is unbearable by noon.
I'm hoping that just associating with you all I will develope the will, the resolve.
I've cut my meager dose by 1/3 the last few days and wonder if I am imagining the flu like symptoms I have or it they are real.
I have'nt had much of a voice for a few months and I do not know why.
Specialist Dr. says he could see nothing wrong when he went in there with a scope.
Bama, I like your presence here.  You feel like the voice of not only experience but of someone who really wants to help someone besides themselves.  Rare amoungst addicts.  Just thought I would give you a shout out and say thank you.

your welcome....don't let this OVERWHELM you. you are the MASTER of your body...you  CONTROL what you put in your mouth up your nose(ME)but or in your arm...also there's no PITY parties allowed. and addicts love to throw pity parties...hard work. self love and an honest open dialogue will get you thru....love bama
