weening off of fentanyl

Hi, I am addicted to the fentany transderm patch and am trying to get off of it.  I didn't know I was hooked until I tried to stop using it.  I was struck by a vehicle while walking home about a year ago and had a titanium implant over my right clavivcle.  The scews to it came loose, but it was left in for months before  they decided to put in a new one.  So my pain has been on-going. I wasn't told how addictive this patch is. I am now on the patch plus oxycodone.  The reason I tried to quit the patch was because I thought that the pills would be sufficient for the pain I am now experiencing in my shoulder.  This has been a nightmare.  My question is....how long do withdrawal symptoms last?  Does the length of time you've been on the drug determine how long your experiences will be, or does it even matter?  I'm really frightened and am bipolar, suffer from PTSD and also obsessive/compulsive.  I've seen some pretty dark times and I'm just afraid it will just get darker and seem hopeless.  The joint pain, the migraines, nausea, sweats, runny nose and inability to sit still are all  what I have experienced.  I boosted the dose to get rid of those symptoms until I get into see my doctor again in 3 1/2 weeks.  Has anyone gone through this to the end and how did you come out if you did?  I am looking forward to hearing from anyone that can help me through this plight.

Talk to your doctor!!!! C/T from this drug can be very dangerous and with all your other stuff going on I would not take any chances. I detoxed from this drug c/t but didn't have any of the other issues that you have. I can honestly say that the worst part for me was the emotional part and without being on an anti-depressant I am not sure I would have made it. You really must seek the help of your doctor, for your own safety.

If anyone tells you to cut the patches to decrease dose, tell them they need to learn more - Its a time release formulary and there have been cases of people killing themselves by trying to taper that way .......  look in the Health Pages of MedHelp for some good information........

Fentanyl is the most ferocious of the narcotic withdrawals - - but that doesnt mean that it cant be done!  It still only lasts a week to 10 days of thinking that you are dieing.......  watch hydration very carefully - I wound up at outpatient IV fluid therapy from not keeping liquids in system - either through loose stools or vomiting.  Have immodium and emetrol on hand for sure - if you are obtaining these legally through a Doc he/she can help with meds for anxiety and sleep ...........   Get something to take your mind off the wd's - - comedic movies work fine and so do good books........just do something even if iots walking to the mailbox once daily!  Just do it!!
