A way to get off Tramadol

My boyfriend has been abusing Tramadol for 3 years. He had a seizure yesterday after taking 12 50mg tablets in a 4 hour period. The doctors now have him on Dilantin, an anti-seizure medication and have scheduled an MRI & EEG. Before this episode he was taking up to 20 50mg tablets a day and is experiencing withdrawl. I want to get him into a detox program eventually, but would like to wait to find out the results of the MRI/EGG first. Can anyone suggest a safe way to 'step down' from this?

Are the Doctors aware of his Tramadol usage? Very important information for them to have! Tramadol can cause seizures, too.
Tramadol is always best to taper off of. avisg may be able to help you set up a taper plan if it doesn't interfere with the Dilantin
