I was addicted to codeine after many years of oxys. But for the past two years only codeine 300 mg a day. Please don't worry about the detox. Codeine is one of the milder narcotics and the withdrawal is really doable not extreme although uncomfortable. For me I cut down to 60mg divided into two 30mg doses, one in the morning and one at night for sleep. Which I continued for two weeks. Then nothing.
I have also withdrawn from codeine over the years many times and know the withdrawal pretty well. The worst day is day 3 or day 4. For me it is always day 3 and from then on, every day you feel better. So prepare for day 3 and maybe 4 as a time to have the "flu" and call in help if you can for your children. The whole thing lasted for my 10 days with some moderate symptoms for a couple weeks coming and going but I have a longer history than you do.
Major symptoms for me were body aches, chills, sweats, some stomach cramping, and the worst for me was a kind of motor restlessness at night that made it impossible to lie still. There is a tablet called I think Hylands Restless Leg tablets that many people have found helpful. Also warm baths, just soak! I would just get out of bed, stretch on the floor and go and get something to eat and keep moving. The stretching for me felt really good.
For me the single most helpful thing was to stay on this website. I read and read and read posts and still do 59 days clean. Post and ask for help. You can do this. You have had much worse cases of flu in your life, so try to keep yourself from scaring yourself unnecessarily.
Now that said let me congratulate you on the decision to stop! It was great that you posted on the site; a big first step. And it sounds like you are really prepared. Use us for support. Post often and let everyone know how you are doing. Lots of experience, intelligence and caring here. You are not alone with this. Good Luck!
