Tapering off vicodins

I have a question for anyone whose done the tapering method to get off vic's, perc's or any other opiate.  I've been tapering down from 8-10 a day 5/500 Vicodins for a few days now.  I started last weekend and taperd to 6-7 a few day, the 5-6 a few days and have been taking 4 a day for the past two days. Tomorrow I will cut to 3 1/2 and then Ill take 3 on Friday.  I guess what I'm asking here is should I continue to take 3 for 2 days then 2 for two days and then stop.  I dont feel real bad at 4 a day, but still have some symptoms.  How long do people normally taper?  A few days, a week or two?  I know it depends on each person, the amount they took and how long....etc.  Well, Ive been on vics for well over 2 years again.  Ive had a few weeks in there where Ive detoxed and then went right back to them.  Im going to start back at my 12 step support groups Friday.  I was so scared this time around because it has been so much harder trying to get sobor.  I was thinking strongly about Methadone or suboxone but I cant see that for me.  I just hope and pray this tapering works.  Does the tapering help to lessen the amount of withdrawal time?

Thank guys,

Ellen

dont go to the meth or sub route as per those are way stronger than your current addiction it would be like walking into a fire when right now its a flame.Tapering does work if you can do it and can keep yourself from doing more when you feel bad. But in the long run i think it always just delays the enivitable. you arnt at to high of a dose right now and that is good so if you can keep up the schedule than keep on going.Maybe you could just go c/t if you feel like you can handle it, it just takes time to heal and to get back to normal. The best way for me was to just go c/t and deal with the w/d's it wont be pleasent but very doable at the dose you are currently on maybe you should think about just quiting and to get it over with. but hope you all the best and to keep on working it and one day it will get better. Life without pills is awsome and to just get yourself back and be the master of you is worth it. just know we are all here to help. good luck.

i dont see methaone nor sub for ur dose either..u r doing well..writing out ur taper and sticking to it is a good idea..there is an article in the health pages on tapering and also the thomas recipe....u seem to have a plan with aftercare included...and like u said..we are all different...i was totally over it so tapered down in 10 days/bad taperer tho/then quit...some have the discipline and will power to go down 10 mg a week etc...i woulda lost motivation at that slow rate.....writing it down and say like 3 pills at 10 mg 3 x a day then go ing to 2.5 for a few days making one of those doses .5 then 2 pills a day and so on...u can do like 5 mgs 3 x a day..after a while it gets kinda yucky and then it is time just to get it over with as u may be prolonging the agony..keep positng   what is ur QUIT day?
