Ultram is the devil.

Okay, so about 1 month ago I hurt my back at work. I was prescribed Ultram by my MD. I have been taking anywhere from 200-300 mg a day for the pain. Two days ago I felt like my back had taken a turn for the better and didn't take my ultram. I felt fine for about 5 hours but then I got chills and sweats. I thought it was because I was stuck in a tiny cold office which I am not used to but since I am on 'light duty' I have to. I wnet bed agter having a huge fight with my husband. I would alternate sweats with chills and couldn't sleep all night. I thought it was just the fight that had me agitated but that morning I realized I hadn't taken my ultram for 24 hours. I took on and about an hour later felt better. I have now realized that I am addicted. I have a plan:
2-50mg per day for 1 week, 1.5-50 mg per day for 1 week, 1-50 mg for 1 week to .5-50 mg for 1 week, and then maybe .5 everyother day as needed.. I know this sounds slow but I never want to feel that way again. Maybe if I go really slow I can retrain my body. Someone please help me. I have 2 little kids and a husband who don't deserve this.

Thanks for the encouragment. I really didn't want to think I could become addicted to something so easily and quickly. Your explaination makes me feel a bit better about the situation. I know I am not alone but I really feel that way.

Your taper plan sounds good b/c it's nice and slow. I don't really think you're addicted though instead I think your body became dependent on them. There's a big difference. If you were taking them as prescribed and not abusing them then it's highly unlikely that you're an addict. It's normal for your body to become dependent on a drug that you're taking daily. Hang in there and just go nice and slow right off of them and you will be fine. Keep posting here and we will be more than happy to help you through this in anyway that we possibly can.

Ultram was not my DOC, vicodin was, so I can not speak to the withdraw time if you went cold turkey. If this plan works and you can function normally then maybe it is right for you. If the w/d is the same as vicodin in 3-5 days ofc/t you would be done with it. I only had two days of slight symptoms that would affect me in the outside world. I had more problems with the lack of sleep, which for the most part was much better in 4 days.

Good luck to you and someone with more experience with this drug will be along soon.
