xanax help my headaches but worry about addiction

for the past 10 years i have been very allergic to tobacco smoke, and i live with smokers, for about 5 years now, i have been taken xanex to kill the headache, the headaches are terrible, the best way to describe it is a migraine.
i have never taken more than one bar at a time, and often go weeks without taken them at all(when im not around smoke)   the last doctor i spoke to said that xanax could be the cause of the headaches, but i only get these headaches when im around my family and their smoke makes its way into my room.  so im wondering am i technically addicted to xanex even though i do not take them every day, during a bad month i may take 20-30 white bars, but then there are times when im around different people, or my family is out of town, and i do not have headaches at all and do not take them at all.  everyone ive asked about this has given me a dif answer and me not being able to be around smoke is causing me to never be around my mother. its depressing

yes, please do start tapering off the xanax. its an awful drug. I haven't even taken it for that long, now realizing it may be the worst thing I ever chose to take on a regular basis. Please read my 'I hate xanax' post! I hope to deter some others from taking this drug. Best wishes to you :)

I agree with worried....I have never heard of xanax for headaches or migraines...I have horrible migraines, And i have probably had every med presribed for them in the last 20 yrs, and xanax was never one of them....Do you suffer from anxiety??  

my sister is very allergic to cig, smoke also.( along with perfumes, pollens etc)  she takes allergy shots every week, or a antihistamine....Do you have allergies to anything else??
i would get a new doctor, and Wean off the xanax ASAP...

I have a smoke problem as well...i will feel awful the next day after being exposed to it for several hours..and it is just not worth it..so i avoid it...i have a good friend and when i visit here she will chain smoke and i have to leave the room...it is her house and her perrogative...so i just avoid it,,,hate it but her company is not worth the sunus stuff thatoccurs the next day....i do not see how xanax can help this tho...benadryl or tyleonl sinus...dont see where xanax fits into allergies no pain control...does relax u tho so if it is a tension headache i could see the use...but smoke is an allergen to many so antihistamines or tylenol combined would make sense...not sure where xanax fits in on that one
