I don't know about the meds, but you should consult your doctor about that part of it. My balance was off for quite awhile when I first stopped. I would say it took as long as 90 days to feel really good, although I was feeling better with each passing week. Is your friend feeling better than the previous week or the same?
Working Dog is right about nutrition because most drinkers are malnourished. I read that alcoholics were low on most B Vitamins (especially B1 or Thiamine). I took a supplement with an extra dose.
See the doctor about your meds, but if he can't find anything wrong you'll have to give it some time. We didnt' get this way overnight, so we won't be cured overnight either.
One of the best softbound books i was handed was in 1983...and published the same year..the pioneering Eating Right to Live Sober:A Comphrehensive Guide to Alcoholism and Nutrition. This book was a team effort by Katherine Ketcham a recovering addict and Dr.Anne Mueller M.D.It was simply written and explained the need for high protein and complex carbs to be a big part of a recovering persons diet complete w/simple nutritious recipes. It was a great help to me in dealing w/my own PAWS and is available on Amazon.com now still as a paperback.A most worthwhile investment!
