Many women with RA, especially those who have taken prednisone, could be prone to osteopenia or osteoporosis. Also, our inability to do lots of weight-bearing exercise can contribute. I was lucky that I had a female rheumie many years ago who thought to order a bone density test that caught it early. Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain. As for RA itself, I don't think Fosamax has any direct effect on the disease, though it does prevent bone degeneration that could lead to increased joint pain.
Yep, my thoughts exactly. I assume you are in pain and have osteoporosis?
Fosamax is for bone thinning. Arthritis is inflammation at the joints. What kind of arthritis do you have? And where?
