abnormal blood results......

Yesterday i had some blood tests done, heamotology, FBC's u and E's, tyroid etc.... now i rang the docs and soke to a receptionist and she said they have come back and my heamotology is abnormal but stable, what does this mean and should i be worried.  I have been feeling very ill the last few weeks feeling weak, tired and having extreme dizziness.

The receptionist feels it isnt urgent and has said that she will pass on my message to ask the doc to ring me back later, but i am worried and want an answer asap.  Any advice would be fantastic.

Hi, thanks for the reply.  Well no i haven't had any kind of surgery, and i have spoke to the doctor who has said exactly the same as you, he feels its nothing to worry about.  However with my symptoms and how distressing and debiltating the dizziness has become i decided to take some anti-inflammatorys at a low dose, basic ibuprofen and have found i developed pain and discompfort almost straight away in my sinus cavities.  before this though I noticed a slight swelling under my right eye and i have been sneezing alot as well with itchy eyes but thought nothing of it, which ive had for roughly a month.  Anyway after taking the ibuprofen my head feels a little clearer, so have also started on an allergy nasal spray as was getting alot of stuffiness, discharge...... so it looks like it may be the culprit of my suffering..... Chronic sinusitis, maybe caused by an allergy.  I have an appointment Monday morning so if things havent improved or get worse i will def go, if things clear up then ive found the problem and treated it myself.

Thanks again for your time.  Julie

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

Basically, you are right, an elevated ESR is indicative of some type of inflammation.  When the result is elevated and there are no other abnormalities and physical findings, an elevated ESR is not really indicative of anything.  Did you just have surgery?  This could throw off your bloodwork as well.  I would follow up with your doctor, but I don't think I would be worried if I were you.  Good luck,

Bridget

I managed to get a printout of the results from my surgery today, sadly not an explanation from the doc though.  My abnormal result was my Erythrocyte sedimentation rate range is 1-20 and my result is 33.  I have googled this and now know this means i have inflammation within my body, but is this result serious?? Does it mean i have something as simple as maybe a virus type cold, with inflammation of the sinuses or is it something bigger.

My symptoms are dizziness, extreme tiredness, weakness, mild night sweats, thirst, pain and tension down spine that makes it hard to walk when stressed, my legs become very weak and i develop pain in the base of my back.....

Can you advise me please.
