Dexedrine Difficulties

I am being prescribed the barr 956 capsule. I took the medication improperly by opening the capsule, and crushing a very small portion of the spansules with my teeth.

After a few days of doing this, symptoms presented as a bi-lateral "warm feeling" from head to toe. The next day, this warmth faded to a numb feeling bi-laterally from head to toe. Which eventually regressed to brady-kinesia on the right side(while the left side remained numb). That is, I had trouble INITIATING and properly controlling fine motor tasks. Writing, shaving, computer work, getting things from my pocket, etc... I discontinued the medication, and the symptoms resolved with a week. I had an MRI performed, and have yet to receive the results. This all came about after being on the medication for 2 months (15mg) 1 per day. I recently had my dosage increased to 30mg every morning. Besides caffeine, I consumed NO other drugs while on dexedrine.

I took Adderall in Highschool for 3 years without issue, then, however my doseage was increased more gradually. I started at 5 mg, and it took me 3 years to be increased to 30 mg.

4 years ago, I had an adverse reaction to cocaine. I ingested a small amount. Other people used the same cocaine, so I am confident that the drug itself was not tainted. I had used cocaine very infrequently and without issue previously. I had a hard time sleeping that night (Friday night) and the next day(saturday), I got a full nights sleep the next night (Saturday night). Upon waking sunday morning I, was dizzy to the point of nausea, I had word recall problems, ataxia, numbness, brady-kinesia.

The MRI revealed leisions brain leisons which were enhanced by the administration of IV contrast. I was completely candid about the cocaine use, and the neurologist still felt that was likely MS.

Is it possible to suddenly become extremely sensitive to drugs? Could this be an allergy? I am very confused and I need the medication as I am a graduate student in Physics.

Your question is best discussed with your neurologist. However, the symptoms you're describing are not known adverse reactions to dexedrine.

I forgot to mention. I resumed taking the medication normally after symptoms resided, at 15 mg per day. The side effects returned with the exception of the right sided brady-kinesia. I just experience numbness and a "cold" feeling
