High Cholesterol & High Blood Pressure Medication

I have been prescribed Simvastatin 40 MG and Lisinopril 10 MG for high cholesterol and high blood pressure (1 pill each every day) - I'm on my 2nd day of Simvastatin and will be taking Lisinopril on thursday.  My doctor wanted me to not start them both at the same time so that I can see, if any, side effects Sim will have - and once I start the Lisinopril, I can see what different, if any, side effects both pills could have.  So far, with the Sim I have felt a little heat rushes - perhaps 3 times, but nothing else.

My question is:  can I exercise while on these pills?  Before the pills, I biked weekly about 3 miles - nothing serious, just riding around my town.  I also went to the gym 3 times a week, and mostly lifted light weights for upper body strength and toning (I'm not a muscle head lol) and played racquetteball once a week for about an hour each (about 4 games, one-on-one - it's very intense).

I have a 5 mile kayak race coming up on the 13th of September that I need to train for.

I just want to know if taking these two pills will effect me in any way.  I'm a little nervous about all this.  I would ask my Doctor but he's on a 2 week vacation.  Any assistance from a Pharmacist would be great.  I would also like to hear from other folks that are using both drugs.

P.S.  I'm a 46 yo male, 5'8" and weigh about 178 lbs.  I smoke about a 1/2 pack a day.  Alcohol consumption is about 6 drinks a week.

Thanks for this forum

There are no major drug interactions with your current medications. You can exercise while taking the drugs, just be sure to let you doctor know of your training.

Flushing has been reported as a hypersensitivity reaction for Simvastatin and other HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, though it's rare.

Hi Sandra - thanks for your quick response.  It's greatly appreciated.  What is flushing?  Should I be worried?

I really don't like to take these pills (Sim, Lis & Aspirin everyday)  :(  but if they are to help, then I must.  I just worry about any major side effects, specially something that will lead to a heart attack......
