I have always struggled with depression and anxiety, but I have always been able to maintain it. I started a new job about a year ago and its extremely stressful. I've been having panic attacks and pretty serious depression so I saw my PCP about it. She prescribed 10 mg of Lexapro once a day and Atavan as needed.
Monday night I felt completely fine (no anxiety), but I took one Lexapro as directed and within a few hours I started feeling very weird. I felt extremely confused and loopy. I developed a terrible headache and a feeling of pain and pressure in my left ear. I felt extremely tired suddenly and I went to sleep much earlier than I normally do, but woke up several times during the night. When I got up in the morning, I felt extremely weak and could barely get out of bed. I didn't have the strength or coordination to open a soap container or iron my clothes for work. I noticed that my pupils were extremely dilated. I somehow made it to work but felt extremely foggy and weird. I had the same headache and ear pain all day.
I called my doctor yesterday and told her about the symptoms. She said that the symptoms were not related to the Lexapro or any interactions but were caused by my anxiety, even after I said I was not feeling anxious. She said that it was way to soon for any side effects to show. She doubled my Atavan dose and told me to take that and to keep taking the Lexapro.
I talked to my mom who said that her and my brother have both had severe and unusual drug reactions with anti-depressants or anti-seizure medications (especially when combined with common antibiotics). A neurologist told her that these kinds of reactions can be hereditary.
I didn't take one last night and I feel a lot better today, but still not 100%
