Do I have Asthma????

I went to my to my local GP about 6 weeks ago, it all started with this Swine Flu scare, and I knew there was something wrong in my chest but I never knew how to explain what was wrong with me, so I never bothered it was just something I learned to live with, but I was worried if I got the swine flu on top of what was wrong with me, I thought I was asking for complications. So when I went to the doctor, I explained the best I could, I told her that when I sing I cant seem to sing low notes and nothing comes out, I was waiting for her to laugh but nothing, and I said the only other thing I can describe is when something really funny happens and I mean really funny and I crack up laughing, I soon have to stop because I go into a cough fit. So it didnt happen very often but it had been happening for at least two to three years. She said it was a nasal drip and possibly a chest infection and gave me a spray for the nose and and antibiotics, I took them for the time  stated but nothing changed, and I went back, I then got sent for a chest x-ray again nothing showed so she was concerned that I may have sarcoidosis and sent me to see a Rheumatologist,  who then sent me for blood test, urine test, ct scan with dye and a lung function test, I was told I had Mild Bullious Emphysema and Asthma. I have been given a Salbutamol CFC Puffer and thats it, I dont feel like anything has changed after all the running around as I havent needed the puffer yet and I have had it nearly a week, I just feel like I still dont know whats really wrong with me, and I am now coughing with phlyem coming up, but I have to admit I swallow as I can not stand the thought of spiting it out. I am 47 and female.

Thanks everyone for advise, am getting very confused about the whole thing as I feel like am never away from the doctors, I have had a camera down my throat that was about three years ago, nothing, I have had a CT Brian scan, nothing I have had all the thing mentioned above plus other things but I feel they are missing it everytime, I did smoke but gave it up three years ago, and I can honestly say I was absolutely fine until I did give them up, and thats the truth, it just seems all down hill since then. Iw ill go back, but when I am sure what am trying to say, I think its all to do with what am saying and what they are thinking, I think sometimes we actually stray from the immediate concerns Robbie

Hi and Welcome.  I am a mom to two children with chronic asthma, not a dr., but I was thinking maybe a consult with an ENT isn't a bad idea in case the larynx is swelling causing the problems with the low notes, etc.  They do a scope in the office and see inside pretty easily and that may help give further insight into that area of your condition?

Just a thought I wanted to share with you.  My daughter suffered yrs with laryngospasms which replicated the flu and they thought pneumonia .. turned out she micro-asprirated during a laryngospasm and ended up on asthma meds for about 2 mos straight.  She gets larynx swelling all the time and right into bronchitis.
