My 2yr old with asthma???

Hello everyone, i wonder if you could help me at all. My 2 yr old has always had a bad chest with chest infections etc but since middle of december he has been coughing when he walks or runs or when he is in bed.

But only then, he is fine in himself and can go all day without coughing until he gets into bed and then he starts.

When he is coughing he is so bad he actually makes himself physically sick. He is as bright as any 2 yr old and his breathing is absolutely fine when he is coughing or running around, it is just the coughing.

I and his father are asthamtic and also his older brother was diagnosed with asthma but has now grown out of it the doctors think.

Does anyone recognise these symptoms of being asthma or can help in any way.

Many thanks

Sometimes asthma can just happen at night...that's not so unusual.   You might want to try putting a plastic covering on his mattress and hypo allergenic pillow covers on his pillows.  Also an air filter in his room.  Make sure his room is as dust free as possible.

There is tons of dust mites in our beds and these are allergens!

i agree with , ive been going to a reg dr and it only got worse said it would go away after my cold but 4 months later here i sit with 2 inhalers  , so went to a asthma dr and they are running test, i guess its like you would not go to a foot dr for your heart so take it to thr right dr first save you lots time and problems

My first thought is to respectfully disagree with treebranches recommendation to take your 2-year-old back to his "regular" doctor. In my experience, they're not very helpful and can at times be hurtful. My 8-year-old daughter has been dealing with asthma since she was 14 months old. The bulk of this time she has been seeing her "regular" pediatrician. We've not had good luck in getting her asthma controlled so far. Last week she saw an asthma/allergy doc for some pulmonary testing. Found out her lungs are functioning at best at 60% efficiency w/some parts at 36%! They think she may have early onset emphysema! She's seeing a pulmonologist and the asthma doc on 2 separate days next week for additional testing. This is something would have NEVER been picked up by her "regular" pediatrician. We are fortunate enough to have found an asthma doc who encourages the use of alternative docs and meds that have proven successful in managing asthma (i.e, acupuncture, beta glucan). After last week, I don't ever plan to talk asthma details in depth with the "regular" doc again. I'm even changing the emergency forms at school to show the asthma doc as the go-to doc in an emergency. Feel free to contact me if you want more details of what I've learned over the last 7 years.

If you and your husband both have asthma, there is a good chance your son has it, especially with these symptoms.  I'd probably take him to his regular doctor for some testing and medication if neccessary.
