don't know what I have but night time usually wake up just getting into sleep with a choking gasping feeling, shortness of breath. When I wake up I find myself clearing my throat. Am not a snorer, Happens every night now 2 to 3 times early on. Have tried benedryl, albuturol, nose strips, humidifier, sleeping upright, lost 20 lbs, eat right, nothing seems to help. Anyone have this prob? night time asthma? any advice will be helpful.

I can relate....I have been struggling with this for years, and it seems to get worse as I get older...I feel like that guy on the Odd couple....an old sit com, he was always taking meds for this to. Luckly I have insurance, I have had all those tests. And I have found what my triggers are by myself. I avoid stong cleaning products, NO SPRAYS. Paint fumes take my breath away. Fabric Sheets are the worst as well as certain plants. I removed all the Mums around my house and stay away from Hyacinths. Strong mens body sparys suck the air from me. I have pets so I vacume often and remove the bag right away...I ended up with central air and the dirt is outside in garage. I use nasel sprays and puffers which really help. A new one if your Doctor will give you a perscription is Avamys...this clears the nasel up so you dont get the dreded Post Nasel Drip. (sounds attractive). The simple saline solition spray and keep your nose well blown, can work. Stay away from smokers, even smelling it on the clothes sends me into coughing fits and I sound like a whale...not attractive at all Good Luck and try to get that phlem out...Hopfully your doctor can help with samples of Ventolin (a puffer) to help in your breathing at night, thats when mine is the worst, it settles in the lungs and can be scary...
I have had asthma since I was four and am not allergic to most dogs very allergic to cats. My doctor told me that can take up to six months after an animal is removed to get the allergens out of the house. Hopefully you can start opening some windows soon to air the place out. Also, Febreeze has an allergen removing product that I find useful to spray on carpet and furniture. Also, I got an air purifier that seems to get rid of a lot of allergens. I hope this helps you.
