chronic cough

I have been getting treatment for asthma for over three years now....neublizer w/xopenex...flomax, advair, asthmanex, to name a few...I am still coughing like crazy.  I had allergy tests and have been on Allegra and a nasal spray....no relief.  It appears that all of a sudden my throat is dry and has a "catch" in it and I start coughing and then water pours out of my eyes and tons of mucous pours out of my mouth.  I am at my wits end because it takes all my energy from me, leaves me with a headache and my throat is getting sore.  It seems to me that something else is going on other than the asthma, allergies.  I have a titanium plate in my neck.  I also take omeprezole for reflux.  Should I maybe see my gastroenterologist and have an endoscopy?.....I am ready to go nuts from the coughing.
Thanks for you rapid reply...I am seriously considering going to the ER tonight because it is getting the best of me.  It is Friday night and all offices are closed.   HELP!

Coughing pushes the mucus out of your broncial tubes, so although it feels awful, in reality is helping heal you. Also, persisant cough can be signs of heart desease, broncitis, etc, so don't wait, go to the ER to be on the safe side.
