constant cough

on the 15th march 2011 i started to feel unwell, a week later i went to my GP with wheezing, chesty cough etc,to  i have been asthmatic for 35 years, he gave me 10 days antibiotics and 10 days steriods, which i have had plenty of times before and it has done the trick, after the course was finished i was as bad as ever so went back and the course was repeated for a week, now 6 weeks later i have a hacking cough, am bringing up green and almost brown phlegm, and sound as though i smoke 40 a day although i have never smoked, have tried without success today to get ANOTHER GPs appointment as there were none available, as a widowed mum to 13 year old twin boys, i am now beginning to get anxious as to why i am still not right, work colleagues and clients, i work as a homecarer to the elderely are commenting daily on my cough, as its so bad, what could it be, i have not as yet had a chest xray done, but am becoming increasingly concerned, your advice please would be very much appreciated, kind regards

I realize how worry you are about your constant cough. Surely there is a need to have a complete evaluation done by a physician and also lab work. It also depend that where you work if you work in a closed place, depending on how your immune system is at the moment you can easily have been re infected with viruses or bacteria that may have caused your upper respiratory infections.

Hi,

You may want to seek the opinion of a pulmonologist or allergist who also specializes in asthma

That would be my two cents .. others may stop by too.
