hi, i have asthma, and have had a chesty cough for the past 6 days. but today it hurts the upper right side of my back to breathe in deeply or to cough. what could this be?

A chest or lung infection is the most likely diganosis. I agree with caregiver222 - you need to see a doctor ASAP.
