Autism causing you to poop your pants

My 16 year old brother has started to poop his pants. He's never done this before and he try's to hide it. My mom confronted him about it and he told her that he was playing a video game and didn't feel like going to the bathroom, so he just pooped I. His pants. My mom told his psychiatrist, and she said its because of his autism. I'm having a hard time believing that though. I'm also autistic, and I don't poop my pants. My brother also has Tourette's.  I feel like he's got behavior issues, and that's what caused this pooping thing. Please understand I'm not saying he's not autistic, just that I don't think autism caused him to poop himself. My question is am I wrong to think this?

Agreed with Lizzie, if he gets  too wrapped up in an activity and forgets to use the bathroom then he gets grounded from that activity. You can and should punish children with autism. Yes, he did miss the bathroom due to his disability, but it sounds like he has the ability to understand that this is not ok. Once he starts playing video games again, perhaps set a bathroom timer every so often so that he needs to get up and use the potty. It is the autism and I thikn there is a way to work with him.

I have a 12 year old that has done that in some occasions.  They become so wrapped up in what they are doing and stay focused on it . it is the autism. He would never do it when small but around maybe 9-10 he started doing it. If he gets to into certain things that don't allow him to focus correctly i take them away and tell him why he's not allowed to them.  That's how I got him to snap out of that . good luck.
