Newbie to Forum

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to introduce myself and my children and thank you for all the information on your forum.  We've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and figured it was time to make introductions.

I am a 36-yr old, single mom with two children.  My son, 9-yrs old, has PDD (all but one criteria for ASD met), obsessive-compulsive disorder, apraxia of speech (severe), mild/moderate mental retardation, chronic, severe asthma, ventricular septal defect.  In spite of his issues, he is a very happy little guy and the light of my life...he has taught us so much.  We have been through the embarassing temper tantrums in the middle of Costco, numerous hospitalizations and medications, speech and OT therapists and we are always in search of that big miracle while embracing the little miracles that occur every day.  Sometimes, those small ones are just him getting dressed by himself!

My daughter is 10-yrs old and is exceptionally gifted with a FS IQ of 145 and quite demanding in her own way.  She's her brother's biggest supporter, protector and he is hers.  Of course, they fight like cats and dogs.

Anyway, I just wanted to say "HI" to everyone, I look forward to what I can learn and hope everyone has a blessed holiday.

Thanks Teri.  The wait is over a year to be seen in NOLA but we are in the process of doing an EI locally and he is having further evaluations done by the ped tomorrow and a therapist eval this Friday.

Did you have a good holiday?  It was okay here...but it is back to work this week and I am not looking forward to it since the kids are laways nute the first week back.  I will be out on Monday and Friday though...so it should not be too bad.

You are right about those little miracles...they are important too.

Welcome to you too!  I hope all goes well at the NOLA appointment and you get the answers and support you need.  A toddler with AS is not easy and I hope that I can be considered a friend and support for you.

Welcome!  I am new here too.  I have a toddler who has just been referred to NOLA for an AS diagnosis, so I too am looking for information and support.
