Aches and pains raised ANA low Vitimin D - help

Hello guys,

Im going to try keep this short and sweet. In March I started to get aches and pains in my limbs. It developed traveling from each joint day to day, also giving me a sensitive sensation in my legs. In April it was still there all over my limbs moving day to day but a constant stomach cramp was present now.

After doctor and hosital visits the main answer was "wait it out" "it will pass" even though no one knew what it was. I was then treated for kidney infection but urine results showed that was clear.

My blood test in April showed a slightly raised ANA so my doctor refered my to a rheumatologist.

In May I saw the rheumatologist she gave me the all clear on physical examination but ordered a blood test.

The results showed my vitimin D level was low at 25 so I'm now im on Colecaliferol 20,000.

My symptoms subsided mid may until this week where the stomach and back pains are back with the shooting aching pains all over my body.

Has anyone else seen anything else like this? Doctors don't seem to be giving answers.  I keep being told stomach pains and cramps are not related to vitimin D deficiency but no one is doing anything.

It's possible to develop allergies to anything at any point in your life. You may be developing a wheat allergy if you were drinking beer the night before it happened. So my first question would be: were you drinking wheat beer, or anything similar the night before this recurred? Gluten sensitivity affects ~10% of the population, and has been linked to causing all of the symptoms you described. Can you remember anything in particular about your diet in March? Was it high in refined carbohydrates, for example? Were you eating out a lot, or drinking with friends frequently?

You said you had a slightly elevated ANA, which immediately conjures up the thought of "autoimmune disease" for me. Although this might not be the case for you, it's likely worth looking into, and I'm surprised the rheumatologist only ordered..........a Vitamin D test. A lot of people have "low" Vitamin D. Actually, 25 isn't bad, according to scientific research. My level was 12 (half yours) a few weeks ago, and I was put on 50,000 IU D3 per week. Low Vitamin D causes osteoporosis in adults when the level starts to hit 10. It also causes fatigue. I don't believe your Vitamin D level is the cause of any of your symptoms. Of course, I'm not a doctor. :)

I'm not sure what age you are, but autoimmune diseases can crop up at anytime, and many of them tend to begin in the 2nd or 3rd decade of life. If you have another one of these "flare-ups", I would recommend seeing your GP or rheumatologist again and asking for more extensive bloodwork that would investigate possible autoimmune origins. Your rheumatologist would definitely know what to order: retest ANA, dsDNA (double-stranded DNA) as a more specific test for lupus--which causes periodic outbreaks of symptoms, ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) to look for general inflammation, RA factor (Rhematoid arthritis), TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to see if you have a thyroid problem--which is notorious for causing joint problems, IgG, IgA, IgE levels, etc. If you want to check for heavy metals, you could do a magnesium urine test (a lot of people are believed to have low magnesium levels, which doesn't show up in blood levels). But if you have low magnesium, you'd probably have some kind of heart palpitation.

I hope this helps, and please keep me posted!

It's really frustrating. It literally subsided and then flared bk up again. The only thing that I did different was I had quite a lot to drink the night before it happened again. I don't normally drink at all but I've never had any problems in the past with alcohol.

I will ask the doctor if I can be tested for heavy metal allergies etc. Did a little research a lot of my symptoms match.

Thank you :)

I look around the differnet forums on MH and I am seeing a pattern of symptoms all similar and no ones doctor knows what it is ...I think that some research may be a good idea, I would suggest that you ask for a heavy metal toxicity test ..check if you have enviromental allergies.
