Causes of coarse speckled ANA positive blood test

Hi, I'm new to this site and this is my first post.  I am wondering if anyone has experience of having a coarse speckled ANA in their blood work.  It all stems from what I think was a viral infection whilst I was around 18. I didn't attend my GP's but I felt pretty rotten, aching all over, sore eyes, fatigue, rash on face.  Anyway I've never been the same since then.  I then started getting sore eyes as if they were tired all the time for which I saw the ophthalmologist who diagnosed dry eyes then I went to see a Rheumatologist who ran some bloods.  He thought I had Mixed connective tissue disease or Sjogren's for which I was prescribed Pilocarpine but I feel so sick taking these. I now have low iron (7), hypothyroid antibodies, extreme fatigue, muscles weakness, raised ESR, stiff joints which feel swollen, amongst other things.

I was wondering if there are any other causes of having positive coarse speckled ANA.  I feel like an old women right now because I feel so tired doing the smallest of activities.  My arms and legs also feel like lead and ache straight away when I do any activity.  I even find it hard to use a hairdryer as my arms ache so much.  Has anyone else got a similar story out there?  Thanks.

Thank you. I will be getting results of my bloods in a week or so and will see what they show up.

Hi decoupage.

Hmm, it is possibly all rooted at low thyroid function- hashimoto's is suspect- and low iron is also a possible cause for hypothyroid.

There might be a link to low thyroid function-when vital organs are involved-to have the onset of other auto-immune diseases.

You should get to the bottom of this and if you find that your Endo is not
pursuing this the way you like, you could try a different one or even better
try an ND or Holistic Doctor, knowledgeable in endocrine issues.

A Rheumatologist should be able to tell , not just from your labs, but with a complete medical evaluation including your medical history and clinical presentation, whether you have Sjogren's or something else.

Take care.
