MS?

Hi, I am 41 year old female with severe muscles cramps in calve muscles and spacticity in feet. I also have been experiencing fasciculations in lower legs and less common in abdomen and upper torso. I have had slight weakness in left arm which is also intermittent (every four to six months).
I have had two MRI's, the recent one with contrast, which both showed no evidence of demyelination or ALS.  My blood results are normal also, although I'm awaiting more blood results regarding Vit D levels. I had a clinical evaluation about 7 months ago which I passed as I had no symptoms at the time. My concern is that because I am a discordant monozygotic twin to MS, as well as my birth mum having MS, how likely is the severe spacticity in my feet (regular cramping accompanied with my toes contracting together and spreading apart etc.) caused by stress and non-specific to early onset of a CNS disease? Do you think given my circumstance I should follow up with a lumber puncture etc? Thank you.

Hey talee,
I have been away from home as I needed to spend time with my dad- 10000 miles away, in Greece- following the sudden passing of my kid brother, Angelo (42).
Please send me more details in regards to your past.
Events, accidents, traumas, medical dx, relationships etc.
My reply will be in a couple weeks and please include any details
you may consider useful. I work in Therapy using Spiritual Energy Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy as my main modalities.
You may p/m me directly, if you prefer.
Do not take medical doctors' remarks too seriously. This is how they are trained. I think I will be able to to offer you some direction.
Hang in there for now, stay focused and strong !
Blessings.

Hi Niko,
Thanks for your reply. I understand your first sentence is suggesting that I have a strong predisposition to MS and it has many symptoms? I have read up on the suspected triggers. I haven't worked for 15 years because I was diagnosed with a mental illness after becoming dysfunctional in my early 30's. I was hospitalized, underwent therapy and rehab for 4 years. If that is not enough stressors to switch on my genes, I don't know what is. I have now worked my way up to university and doing a psychology degree at 40. I haven't had surgery or an infection, but nor has my twin. We both shared the same environment and both spent the same amount of time in the sun. Are you saying I should have the LP to rule out any other diagnostic possibility? What do you mean comprehensive preventive plan combined with a holistic approach... the neurologists and general practitioners think I'm simply paranoid and want me to go away and get on with my life.. How do I tell them in plane English that I want to correct any possible imbalance?? Please tell me so I can convince them. I would love to know how they can help me improve the "terrain" to prevent neurodegenerative activity. What is the Holistic Health Practitioner called..I haven't heard of one before, and who do I ask for one. Thank you very much for your reply. Hope to hear back soon.

Genetic factors in cases as the one you presented, according to scientific evidence, are merely predisposition to susceptibility to many variants of MS, as symptomology of MS is extremely varied.
The suspected underlying MS causative factors are undetected viral/pathogenic infectious conditions and triggered by stressors, such as emotional distress, physical or emotional trauma, surgery, infections, other illnesses etc.
Certain physical and emotional imbalances presenting symptoms like the aforementioned ones in your post are due to a combination of enviromental and genetic etiology.
The one area of interest in your case is the apparent absence of signs of demyelination that normally would not support the further MS investigation
at present, warrantying the LP. Nonetheless, the LP, not as a follow-up for such an investigation necessarily, but for other diagnostic purposes as suggested by your treating specialist to rule out other possibilities, may be useful.
My opinion is to implement a comprehensive preventive plan combined with a holistic approach to correct any possible imbalances, thus altering and improving  the "terrain" to a level that it is not conducive to neurodegenerative activity.
Seeking out a Holistic Health Practitioner, with expertise in this field, may be a very viable option.
Wishing you well.
