tremors that lead to temporary paralysis

Hello, I am new here. For the pas two years I have had strange attacks that no doctor has been able to pin point. They start out feeling like I was hit in the back of my head with a hard object close to the base of my neck, then I would feel an electric shock. Tremors would start in my head/neck violently jerking to the right only and in my right arm only. They would last about 20 minutes. I would normally pass out when the tremors stopped, I would be conscious during the tremors. Upon waking both of my legs from the waist down and my right arm from the shoulder down would be completely paralyzed for about 3 hours. After that I was able to walk but I was very stiff. I felt like I ran a marathon, was hit by a bus and worked out at the gym for several hours all at the same time. I normally required the use of walking with a cane for a few days afterwards because it was hard to get around. This has went on for two years now. I have had problems with memory loss, I cannot remember how to spell anything or I would try to type a word and type the wrong word. An example would be trying to type memory and type money. Always with the same first letter just the wrong word. I have been diagnosed with migraines and nothing more. I have seen two neurologists who both have told me it is stress and will not run any tests (other than an MRI). In the past two weeks a new symptom has shown up. Both of my hands and bottom of my feet are tingling, pains are running up my forearms and calves and my fingers and toes feel like they are fuzing together. Other than Imitrex I am not on any medication. The migraines do not even bother me. I have one to two of these attacks a month. My father died from MS, I have had had 4 MRI's showing nothing. I know stress can do weird things to your body but for 2 years the same thing. I can feel the aftermath, so to speak, of the hit to the back of my head everyday. This feeling never goes away. Because my doctor thinks it is just stress they don't take it seriously. Anyone have any suggestions, please???? I have lost several jobs because of these attacks, they are interfering with my life.

Thanks Niko. The attacks started before I was taking Imitrex. I should have made that clear. Sorry about that. I have only been on that RX for about 2 months and really do not take it that often. I will give the coconut oil challenge a try though. At this point anything helps.Thank you again for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Hi caattzz. and welcome to the forum.

Well, for starters, I would suggest you look into serotonin syndrome and seizures, side effects of Imitrex, which may be  possible co-factors.
The precise role of serotonin in the brain is VERY hard to understand,
even by many top neurologists!

For some reason, I tend to think that there's a combination of various factors playing a role here. The challenge is to identify them.

Stress indeed could be one of them. It is probably one of the most underrated underlying causes of many disease processes.

Impaired glucose uptake in the brain, would be also something I would look into as well. Not sure how to go about testing, but,  a coconut oil challenge
would probably achieve similar results.
Coconut oil, consisting of medium -chain fatty acids, is one of the few substances able to cross the blood-brain-barrier (bbb).and provide one of the most preferred alternatives to fuel the brain
1-2 Tablespoons a day for week one, 2-3 Tablespoons week 2, 3-4 T for week 3 and 4T for week 4 on. Extra virgin Organic is what I always use.
It is an easy and safe challenge to consider.
Use in place of pro-inflammatory cooking oils, as it will not alter when heated.

For more info on coconut oil, you may visit the coconut research center website.

I hope this helps, but please note that my comments are not intended to replace medical advice.

Best wishes.

Niko
