VIRCHOW-ROBIN SPACES

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH HASHIMOTOS THYROIDITIS, HYPOTHYROIDISM, AND FIBROMYALGIA.  I HAVE BEEN HAVING BAD HEADACHES WITH DIZZINESS AND UPSET STOMACH. THE MOTION SICKNESS MEDS DID NO GOOD.  HAD A CT SCAN WHICH SHOWED VR.  I HAD AN MRI WHICH CONFIRMED THE CT SCAN.  I AM SCHEDULED TO SEE A NEUROLIGIST IN MARCH.  IS THE VR ASSOCIATED WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE?  CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANYTHING UNDERSTANDABLE FROM THE INTERNET EXCEPT IT IS RARE.

The Virchow-Robin spaces could definitly be the cause of your headaches and dizziness/motion sickness, which could result in an upset stomache. VRS is hard to explain, it is enlargening around the arteries in your brain. It involves pathways that contain interstitial fluid and cerebral spinal fluid that can affect balance/coordination and cause motion sickness, amoung a variety of other neurological symptoms. Theses are not present in healthy young adults, and can be related to a variety of multiple other diseases, including encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). They can, however, be present with advancing age. What I can suggest until you see your neurologist is start calling the clinic every other day or so to see if there are cancellations to get in sooner, since you are having these symptoms that are so bothersome. What you may also try is scheduling an appoinment with your regular doctor, explain your situation and symptoms, and perhaps you could be prescribed somthing to get you through until you see the neurologist-such as phenergan for nausea and pain medication for your headaches. If you don't have a regular doctor, you can always search online for free or low-income insurances. Remember, you shouldn;t have to suffer until your neurologist appointment in March, and you are your own advocate, so you do have to do the footwork to get releif. What I also suggest is writing down a list of questions for your neurologist so when you see him/her you remember what you wanted to ask about your diagnosis. Hopefully they can explain in a more detailed way what's going on, why, and what he/she is going to do about it. Keep us posted and let us know how things are going. I'm sending my best wishes and thoughts, and hope you get releif soon. Take care.

Not sure if you will ever get this. But th east few years I have suffers from a growing frequency if memory loss. Also headaches are more frequent but not severe, and for the past 5-6 months I can't get more then 4 hours of sleep a night, 5 if I take some Ambien. Within the last week I have had a CT scan and MRI. The MRI came back and the consensus evaluation is VRS on my Balas Gaglia, I have a sleep study scheduled.....anyway it sounds like I am going through merely exactly what your post suggested......any update on your situation or advice?
Thanks

Hi, I'm glad my post helped. I think definitely the symptoms you're having, upset stomache and all, could be related to the VRS and/or possible another disease connected to it. Likewise with the forgetfullness. The sleep problem may or may not be ralated to it, or another disease connected to it, but it's definitely something to bring up to your neurologist. It's hard to get any information about this on the internet as all the information you find is written in wordy medical terminology! If the meds they gave you aren't helping, you can always go back to that doctor and ask to try a different med. Dramamine over the counter can be good for the motion sickness type of feeling and upset stomache. Prescribed Phenergan is also great for nausea. I'm glad you found this website, aand glad your husband knows sherades :) Take care, and best wishes! Feel better :)

THANKS FOR RESPONDING. I WENT TO MY REGULAR DOCTOR WHO SENT ME FOR THE CT AND MRI.  THEY MADE THE APPT. FOR THE NEUROLOGIST.  HE GAVE ME MEDS FOR THE UPSET STOMACH, WHICH IS DUE TO THE DIZZINESS.  ALSO MED FOR MY HEADACHES.  MEDS FOR THE STOMACH AND DIZZINESS HAVE NOT HELPED.  MEDS FOR THE HEADACHES TAKES THE EDGE OFF.  I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS VR. IS THIS A SYMPTOM OF MY OTHER PROBLEMS? I MEAN COULD IT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY SOMETHING I ALREADY AM BEING TREATED FOR? I THOUGHT MY FORGETFULLNESS ( WHICH IS REALLY BAD SOMETIMES ) WAS BECAUSE OF SOME OF MY MEDS.  IT HAS BEEN GRADUALLY WORSE OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. THANK HEAVEN MY HUSBAND IS GOOD AT SHERADES.  MY DOC SAID THE SAME THING YOU DID ABOUT IT COULD BE RELATED TO A VARIETY OF MULTIPLE OF OTHER DISEASES.  I HAVE HAD A SLEEP DISORDER  FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND TAKE 400 MG OF PROVIGIL A DAY.  IT HELPS SOME BUT I STILL HAVE MY INSTANT TIREDS. I WONDER IF MAYBE THIS VR COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS AND MAYBE IT IS NOT A  SLEEP DISORDER AFTER ALL.  I  APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS AND I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.
