Wonky diagnosis?

For the last 2.5 years, I've had what I'm almost certain is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  Trying to present my symptoms to the Neurologist I saw today, he said that he thought instead that it was "...the immune system turning on in response to a viral infection, but not turning off again properly.  It usually takes many years to properly resolve."  He didn't give me a specific name and the only things I can find that even come close to that description are autoimmune disorders, which is why I'm asking here.

Does anybody recognize what the Neurologist was describing?

I do have a postive ANA, but a Rheumatologist thought it was almost certainly a false positive as there were no other related signs or symptoms like pain points, rashes, etc.

Hi ! I hope that you will please join us in MedHelp's fibro / CFS forum. I have CFS and I also have a positive ANA titer. I've found out that 25% of people with CFS have a positive ANA titer and autoimmunity problems.

selmaS:  Thank you for the confirmation.  My impression was that Canada and the UK seemed to be leading the pack when it came to CFS, but apparently, not all Canadian neurologists have caught up. :)  I believe fibromyalgia has been ruled out at this point due to the complete lack of pain points, but I will drop by the forum and see what's there.  As you can imagine, I've been all over the web in the past 2.5 years, but haven't really joined any forums or communities, at least not very actively.  But now might be the time to start. :)

msnova74:  Thank you.  I thought something sounded familiar about the explanation, but wasn't placing it.  As soon as you pointed me back to CFS/CFIDS/, I found several references to it.  I've been focussing mostly on symptoms in my search and less on causes...all I remembered for CFS was that nobody knows for sure what causes it.

So you're saying he basically diagnosed me with CFS without diagnosing me with CFS?!?

That is a classic explaination of Chronic Fatigue immune Deficiency syndrome via my rheumy.  Unfortunately, there are some MD's who don't believe in it.
