MRI Reading: There is straightening of the normal cervical lordosis with anterior discetomy and interbody fusion C5/6 and C6/7. "Solid bony bridging appears to be present to the extent that the bones are visualized." There is susceptibility artifact present obscuring fine detail. Visualized portion of the posterior fossa & the cervical spinal cord have normal signal & morphology.
C1/2 shows mild hypertrophic change, but no neural comprise on sagittal imaging.
C2/3 shows mild right uncovertebral joint hypertrophy with a large spur causing mild recess stenosis & mild to moderate foraminal stenosis at this level.
C3/4 also shows moderate right uncovertebral joint hypertrophy with moderate right lateral recess stenosis & moderate to severe right formainal stenosis at the level.
C4/5 is limited by suseptibility artifact, but shows no gross high-grade compromise
C5/6 shows small right uncovertebral joint hypertrophy, but no neural comprise.
C6/7 also shows fusion, but no neural compromise.
C7/T1 shows a mild broad-based disc osteophyte complex which does appear to narrow the right neural foramen, at least moderately, with mild narrowing on the left.

The statement about bones are visualized?? Any reason to be concerned? Had C6-C7 fused 5/1/05 but NS didn't put a plate in to hold it. Changed NS. Had C5-C6 fused with a plate over C5-C7 held by6 screws on 11/29/05. Scheduled for fusion at L4-S1, but had L4-L5 fused as L5-S1 was autofused on 1/18/06.
Scheduled for a cervical laminectomy and decompression at C2-C3 & C3-C4 with possible fusion on 9/11/07. Should I question the bones being visualized at C5-C7 before surgery, or is that the Radiologist way of saying I have a plate. Dang I wish these Radiologist would put MRI's in layman's terms.
Thanks
