After my surgery, the pillow was placed longways underneath my neck and back. It is very uncomfortable sleeping with the neck brace on but very important that you do as you do not want your neck to twist the wrong way while you are sleeping. Good luck and I hope all goes well.
After my acdf, I found the only way to get somewhat comfortable, was to lay with a pillow under the middle of my back.
HI Cherie...good luck tomorrow !!!
U can sleep on ue side...but u will need the right pillows.
At the hosp, they took several blankets and made this tightly wrapped long tube and taped it ...this was used behind my back to give support so my muscles were not holding me on my side...u just don't understand until this is placed just right, u can feel it take all the pressure off....plus they put a pillow, not a large one, but a pillow btwn my knees to keep my hips level.
The head of the bed was elevated and I had a long narrow tube like pillow made of the foam that springs back...but gives support...it was made by Homedics.......it worked great for me.....and my neck had the incesion as well as the back of my head......
I am sure ur drs will give u all the info when u leave the hospital...and I wish they would give the info sooner so u r more prepared....but it did work well for me to lie on my side.
I'll be thinking of u : )
Godspeed
