severe neck pain

Hi. I am a 23 yr woman. Since having my son 5 yrs ago, I have had increasing neck and back pain. I have seen chiropractors and physios to no avail. The pain in my neck is most prevalent right at the base of my skull. There is honestly not a minute in the day when I am not in pain. It has been getting much worse over the last 6 months. I cannot sleep because of the pain. Panadeine forte and neurofen plus help for maybe half an hour. I can't look down to read, I can't lift my son, I can't walk for more than half an hour without ending up bed bound for 2 days. The pain radiates into my head and causes blurred vision. I get dead arms and hands, nausea and dizzyness.Previous ct and mri scans state that I have slight curvature of the spine but no other malformations. Although my chiro did pick up that my neck bends the wrong way.I thought perhaps I may have a chiari malformation. My doctor has ordered me a brain ct. I hope this finds something as I can no longer bare this pain.Any ideas please?

Its apparent from reading your post that you there's something going on in your neck, and your symptoms are a little worrisome. Be careful with Chiropractic manipulations of the cervical spine, they can often make you worse, and in some instances have disastrous results.

Panadeine forte and neurofen plus are really not strong enough for the type of pain you're having, I know I've experienced it myself.

Even if your cervical and brain MRI's turn out to be normal, you need to find a Doctor that will treat your symptoms. All problems are not detectable on scans, that doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist.

I"ll give you a link to the Chiari Malformation forum, there's some great people over there, and they'll gladly help if they can.
