something other than Tramadol

Hi All,
I'm new to the site and I am hoping that maybe someone will have some imput for me.  I have a back problem that is going to require some surgery and I'm ok with that.  I've tried Tramadol but unfortunately it causes me to have seizures even at small doses.  Even though it does work on my pain, so my husband is dead set against me using it.  Does anyone have any ideas of other non-norcotic pain relievers.  I have been in recovery for about 15 yrs and I'm not willing to jepordize that.  I hope someone can give me some ideas.
Thanks for having a site like this it's nice to have other people to talk with.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I am also in recovery & reqiring more back surgery. I spoke to my sponsor about this & she told me that if I need to be on a narcotic for a specific period of time & NO LONGER I should have someone else control the med such as my spouse. And to be sure to let the doctor & anesthesiologest know that I'm in recovery & to give me only what is absolutely necessary. I still don't know exactly what I'm going to do except put it off as long as I possibly can
