spinal cavenomas

I have multiple cavernous hemamgeomas in the brain and had one removed from the right temporal lobe about 10 years ago. I now have one in L7 L8 approx 2mm, my symptoms are pain in left shoulder, mid spine and lower back. Also extreme hypersensitivity on left side from shoulder down and left leg from knee down. My GP has prescribed Gabapentin, could you please tell me the prognosis of the spinal cavenoma? Thank you

Hi Dr Mathur, have started on a low dose of pregabalin  which will be titrated up to the optimal dose for pain relief and to get rid of the hypersensitivity. I have spoke to my neurologist on the phone about this and he has put my mind at rest, I will see him in person in July. I wanted to thank you again for your time and expertise.

Hi!
Just like the cavernomas of the brain, the cavernoma of the spine can change in size and differ in presenting symptoms. A cavernoma in the thoracic region can cause the symptoms you are suffering from. The first attempt is made to treat the symptoms with medications. If this does not improve, surgery is the only choice. This can be high risk as it may damage the spinal cord. Do discuss this with your doctor and neurosurgeon. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
