Brain Damage?

I have heard that long term use of benzos can cause brain damage, this bothers me because all I ever wanted was to get well and I trusted a duck(DOC) Quack Quack Lol......  I have never been on high doses but I have been on Klonopin 0.5 mg for about 5 1/2 yrs. and I am currently withdrawing off Ativan fun stuff!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know if this is true? This bothers me I used to be really smart.....

Thanks Erin I needed that little bit of reassurance for that I thank you I was very sacres it's amazing the pills these doc's just push on you and then when your ultimate goal is to get better in essence you get worse...  I hate my doc but I have to forgive him I guess....
Once again I feel better thank you, you are a sweetheart....

I was on pills for 10 years and my doc said it can change your brain chemistry after awhile but it will eventually return unless you've abused too long then you chemistry may not be the same again. But he didn't refer to it as brain damage. I think you're going to be O.K. I know a lot of people who have taken benzo's longer than you and have come off to lead a normal like with time. Just focus on the positive that you're getting off and on your way to better health!! You probably just have some brain fog right now-that will go away, mine did.
Best wishes
Erin
