Zyprexa

Just wanting to know a little of others experience with this medication. I have been on it for 6 weeks now and I have gained a lot of weight. Is it all possible to lose weight while taking this med?? I also always feel really exhausted, lacking energy to do what i use to. Has anyone found that their mind switches off when taking it, like I find it difficult to to do anything, I can think about it but not actually get up to do it, like my head is switched off.

I love Zyprexa!  It took a while to adjust to, but it allowed me to go off Lithium which is much more toxic.  I've been taking it happily for 4 years. I take 5 mg at night, so I don't need to worry about sleepiness.  I didn't have any weight gain either!

I took this **** for long enough to know that it was a danger to my health.  I was on it for almost a year.  I gained 35 pounds in the first 4 mnths.  It made me so sleepy all the time I was on it that I couldn't sit for more than 5 minutes or I would be asleep.  My sexdrive was totally nonexistant.  That is a big problem for me considering I have an obsession with sex.  It made me borderline diabetic and between it and the Risperdal that my new shrink put me on, I am now totally diabetic.  I've been on psych meds since I was 23, now 37.  I don't advocate this drug to anybody because in my personal opinion, it's a very dangerous drug.  All psych meds have risks but this one was the worst I was ever on.  My opinion tho, so don't request off of it if it actually works for you but if you're having problems, get off it asap.  I weighed in at 195 when I started it but now I weigh 265.  I was on Risperdal for over 4 years so that one had a weight side effect too but it kept me stable.  Now I take Invega, it's working pretty well after the transfer period.  Your choice but I would beware of any psych med.  Shane
