Need help regarding approaching a psychiatrist.

My brother was under deep depression 2 years back when we consulted psychiatrist and he started with antidepressant. later down the road he gave him depakote for a month then finally moving to Lamitor (started from 25mg to 300mg a day) alongwith Rospitril (started from 3mg and tapered it off to 0). My brother was good till he took 50(morning) and 150mg at night. but it was increased to 200mg at night he started to have a bit dizziness initial 5 minutes and heavy head whole day.
He told the doctor but he dint acknowledge his concern and kept on prescribing same dose. At that time my brother dint start therapies or counseling. So when he dint get support from psychiatrist my brother stopped medicines in last year feb.
somehow he started medicine last year November (Lamitor 50+100 mg, and rospitril 3mg at night). this is the time when his doc told that he has Bipolar. But we are still not sure bits correct diagnosis as he is majority of time is in depression, less motivatrd, no will to work than mania. he only gets angry or irritated. and in January this year we started his counseling too.
Then he wanted to consult another doc we went to him and he added another medicine Arip 5mg in morning. my brother took it for 13 days.
But during those days he felt high heart rate, and his regular blood test showed elevated liver enzymes. So i was concerned and we made him reduced Arip dose to half today.
Tomorrow we have physician appointment for his liver and heart. Later his new psychiatrist to make him taper off Arip ( as i found some really bad side effects of this).
And then coming Saturday to his old psychiatrist to show physician report and with request to not to increase Lamitor further, to taper Rospitril and see how he responds to Counseling which is added recently to his treatment plan.
Now my question is.. is this correct approach. will his old psychiatrist agree to consider our request and if he does not will a new psychiatrist take it in consideration while prescribing medicine.
And how shall we confirm his diagnosis also.

Thanks in advance.

He is showing signs of bipolar.  Confirming his diagnosis can be accomplished by him getting a a second opinion or by really sturyng thr diagnosis criteria... Or both.  As far as the medicine goes he is going to go through a change every time the medicine is changed so eventually it is important to accept. The medical treatment plan layed out by the Dr and stop making changes.  He will continue to have some signs of depression and the other aide of bipolar.  That just means he is human and still alive.  With the beat medicine available that should be expected.  Over time though, the medicine will give him the chance to do l his life with more support ( like a therapist and/ or friends and spiritual support).  The windows where he is stable to the point that he can work on these things are the best times to try this although when we are good no help is needed it is good to keep in mind that there will be a fall coming up.
