Lithium is about $20 per month and Lamictal is around $250.00 per month.  I also suffered a bout of lithium toxicity which put me in the psych ward for a couple of days, or until I could come down.  My psychiatrist was trying to get me to sleep better with more lithium and it back fired.

WEll lithium is evel and it does damage the thyroid. I know cause mine is gone and I am pretty sure it was the lithium that damaged it and caused the giant goiter that had cancer in it.
I know it is a pain but the thyroid pill aint so bad and it makes you fell better and keeps you form being hypothyroid which can kill you.
Justin I hate to tell you this but your thryoid wont get better. just keep taking your med and live your life and have fun
I dont know why docs keep prescribing litium when there are so  much better meds to deal with bi polar.

Hi, I was on lithum for many years and now I'm hypothyroid. My Dr. took me off it and said it was the cause of my thyroid. It makes me mad too, because this happened 10 years ago and I will always have to be on thyroid medicine.

I hate Lithium. My son was on it and ended up with a "brain insult" from it, and spent a week in a coma! That was 7+ years ago and he still has memory problems! He's now on Lamictal, Depakote, and Seroquel and that seems to work pretty good. He ended up having Kidney failure 6 months after the Lithium deal.. and the Lithium had been stopped. Everyone tells me his kidneys is a family trait problem and not the Lithium, but I still can't help but wonder if it had something to do with it. I don't think it CAUSED it, but I think it really helped the kidney disease along. Best of Luck to you, and follow your thinking. If it don't feel right.... most likely it's not!
