I keep a medicine bottle in my bag so that when I remember that I forgot them, I can take them wherever I am.
Yeah, I can relate to that I double dosed many many times for the same reason and had to sleep it off. Not good, but what can you do when your memory fails you?.
As I have to take meds in the day too it can be very difficult to remember at times so I used my ipod alarm to aid me, a mobile phone alarm could be used for the same purpose.Yeah, I also agree with Xila31 about routine, and bpchrisb about the pill boxes - good ideas.
Sometimes though the 'forgetting' part is like you said, partly not wanting to take them and it kind of subconsciously messes things up. Every time I take them, especially at night when I have a 'handful' of pills it is a reminder and symbol of the illness which isn't nice. I am guessing that with time it will become such a habit that I won't be focusing on that connection and it will just become another thing to do like brushing teeth.
Because of the cognitive dulling effects of Lamictal, I have to make sure I keep my medications in an AM/PM container. I fill it up the night before and use it, always. Even on the weekends.
My problem was, I found myself double dosing on my medications here and there; I had simply forgotten I had taken them.. When I do that with Lamictal, I get a pretty harsh reminder; it winds me up and makes me very, very sick to my stomach..
I have always had this problem with meds and even vitamins. I have a terrible memory for this stuff. Also when I started my lithium I was sort of scared of it because I had bad reactions to psych meds before.
So, my solution was that every night right before I get into bed I take my lithium and my birth control pill (because I forget those too.) It's now become a habit after 4 months, and I've only missed a dose here or there. Not nearly as bad as before.
So, if there is something you do at the same time or similar time every day, take your meds then. It makes it easier to remember.
I hope that helps!
