Help maybe having mixed episode?

Hello, I have not been diagnosed with bipolar, but I started Effexor three days ago. The first two days I felt good, then last night I woke up with a lot of fear and anxiety, now I feel super depressed, restless and anxious. I only slept about 3 hours last night. Does this sound like a mixed state? If so, what do I do?

Antidepressants can create manic episodes. I'd contact your psychiatrist ASAP. If an antidepressant causes mania you may not really be bipolar, there is some arguement in the medical community over this one. Just saying it may not be in your best interests to start a permanent drug like a mood stabilizer. You may want to wait and see if another episode develops on its own. It may just be a one time thing.

or maybe wait a bit and see if it goes away or gets worse, but it has been my experiance not to let things go on for too long.

It is possible and sounds like it could be to me. I think the best thing would be to contact your psychiatrist and let him/her know what is going on.
